# Low Cost Tracker - Activation Process

Before first use, Low-Cost Trackers must be activated from their dormant state to start measurements and send transmissions. Follow the steps below:

1\. Install an NFC App:

* Use an NFC-enabled smartphone (Android or iPhone 7 and later).
* Download an NFC app from the Play Store or App Store.

2\. Enable NFC on the Smartphone:

* Turn on NFC functionality in the phone’s settings.
* Open the installed NFC app.

3\. Wake Up the Device:

* Hold the smartphone close to the Low-Cost Tracker and move it gently until the app detects the NFC tag.

4\. Set Up the Tracker Configuration:

* Configure the device or group settings in the GIoT platform (refer to Low-Cost Tracker Configuration Parameters).

5\. Trigger Configuration Update (Optional):

* To avoid waiting for 24 hours, gently shake the device for approximately 45 seconds.
* It triggers a motion detection event and sends the first message (Motion Start Event) to the GIoT .

6\. Check for Updates:

* After the first message, the device will receive and apply any configuration updates available in the GIoT .

7\. Verify Message Transmission:

View the first and subsequent messages in the GIoT under Events (refer to Checking if my Tracker is Sending Messages).
